Will Vitamin D Protect Us Against Covid-19?

Facts not Fiction

As the Covid-19 pandemic begins to spread throughout the world, everyone is looking for a way out of this crisis, how to stay healthy and to prevent the worst from happening. Just one week ago, a Harvard professor announced that there is compelling evidence that Vitamin D has a role in protecting us from contracting Covid-19 (SARS-CoV-2). As you know from my previous post, I’ve spent the past 4 months trying to get my head around this crisis — how did we get here, how do we get out, how do we stay healthy and positive and how do we prevent the worst from happening? So as I stumbled through the morass of fictionalized truths flooding the internet, I finally found some real gems, facts not fiction or opinion, that I think will help us navigate through the crisis and get us to the other side of this pandemic.

Compelling Evidence

Dr. JoAnn E. Manson says, “There's emerging and growing evidence that vitamin D status may be relevant to the risk of developing COVID-19 infection and to the severity of the disease.” If this evidence continues to demonstrate its relevance in fighting coronavirus, we have a beacon of light for guiding us through this pandemic. For many years, the scientific and medical community has known that Vitamin D3 plays a vital role in boosting our immune system, and now it has once again come into the spotlight for its potential for preventing the development of Coronavirus and mitigating the acute symptoms.

Explaining the Evidence

Although we can see that this is very good news, Dr. Manson’s video is only a summary of the benefits for avoiding Vitamin D deficiency. We cannot see or understand all the ramifications of this great news. Fortunately, as I stumbled through the morass of fictionalized truths over the past 4 months, I found a great, yet humble scientist and researcher, Dr. John Campbell. He has taken on the role of helping people learn about and understand the facts regarding Coronavirus.

Since the 1990s, Dr. Campbell has been making nurse education videos and he’s had his Youtube channel for 10 – 12 years. He is the founder of Campbell Teaching, and a medical nurse practioner and trainer. His videos for Coronavirus (Covid-19) are well-researched and articulated, and very easy for the layperson to follow and understand. Dr. Campbell promotes the idea that the pandemic disregards international borders and that we (the world) must fight it together if we are to successfully control it. He believes and enthusiastically endorses that scientific knowledge is the essential tool the world has to fight this pandemic.

One Last Thing

These are unprecedented times, we are navigating through unexplored territory, and since this pandemic knows no boundaries, everyone on this entire planet is affected, there's no luxurious safe zone! Fortunately, we have a tool at our fingertips that allows us to reach out from our locked down caves to almost anywhere in the world. One of the great things we can learn from this crisis is how regular people, not governments, can control our future if we all work together. It's the only way...let's keep on moving forward with the internet as our medium for getting the knowledge, courage and positive outlook we need for getting past these traumatic times to the post-Covid-19 era.
